Obituary for Matthew "Matt" Mathis
Matthew “Matt” Mathis, 44, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on April 9, 1974 in Beardstown, IL the son of James L. and Bernice (Hankins) Mathis. Matt was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1992. He married Jaime Miller on September 24, 2011 at Hope Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel. Matt and Jaime enjoyed their time together especially traveling. Matt will always be remembered for his great sense of humor. He loved to joke and have fun with his family and friends. Among his hobbies, Matt enjoyed watching NASCAR. He also loved spending evenings at home and having family game night. Matt worked at Menards as a yard manager for seven years and truly enjoyed working to help people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Matt will be remembered by his wife, Jaime Mathis; mother, Bernice Mathis; two daughters, Felicia Mathis and Megan Mathis; son, Dalton Smith; all of Mount Carmel; one granddaughter on the way, Olivia Charlotte; two sisters, Vicki Mathis of Mount Carmel and Penny DeVore of Beardstown, IL; several nieces and nephews. Matt was preceded in death by his father; infant brother, Steven; and foster brother, Greg Carpenter. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Kramer officiating. Family and friends may gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
