Obituary for William "Bill" Sherman
William “Bill” Sherman, 90, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at his residence with his loving family at his side. He was born on February 6, 1926 in Wabash County, IL the son of Roy Wayne and Bertha (Carroll) Sherman. Bill married Margie Shoulders on December 23, 1951 and together they enjoyed sixty four years of marriage.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honored with the Purple Heart, Army of Occupation Medal Japan, Combat Infantry Badge, and Korean Service Medal with Three Bronze Service Stars.
As a young man Bill worked as a stock boy at Meissners. He then began his career with Mount Carmel Public Utility Company as a gas serviceman and retired after forty two years of service. Bill was a handyman. He loved to help people repair things. He and Margie enjoyed traveling, especially their trip to San Francisco. Deep fried catfish was a favorite food of his and he sampled it in many tristate area restaurants. Bill was a Life Member of the VFW Post 4276 and the Disabled Veterans of America. He was a sixty plus year member of the IBEW Union. Bill enjoyed listening to Gospel Music. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church. Bill will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Bill will be remembered by his loving wife, Margie Sherman of Mount Carmel; two sons, Timothy Sherman of Evansville, IN and William (Ann) Sherman of Loudon, TN; grandchildren, Chris (Abby) Sherman, Lori (Randy) Younce, Steven (Jesse) Sherman; great grandson, Connor Younce; brother, Earl Sherman; and sister, Maxine Lashley.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Sherman and sister, Louise Sherman.
Family and friends are invited to gather 4:00p.m. - 6:00p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 1:00p.m., Thursday, December 22, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Deron Colgan officiating. Prior to the Funeral Service, a Military Walk Through will take place. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to the Free Methodist Church.
