Obituary for Wayne E. Moran, Sr.
Wayne E. Moran, Sr., 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Wabash Christian Village in Carmi, Illinois surrounded by the love of his family.  He was born on December 29, 1934 in Brown County, Illinois the son of Oswald and Gladys (Wagner) Moran.    Wayne married Pamela Jean (Hawkins) on October 11, 1980 and together they enjoyed thirty-nine years of marriage. He was a graduate of Brown County High School.  Wayne faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy.  He was enlisted from 1952 to 1955 and served in the Korean Conflict.  Following his Military Service, he moved to St. Louis, MO and began working in construction.  He later worked for Sears Roebuck & Company and was transferred to the Flora, IL store where he worked until 1987. Wayne also worked as a dispatcher for the Sheriff’s office in Clay County and with the Illinois Department of Corrections in Mt. Sterling until his retirement in 1999. Wayne loved his family and enjoyed time spent with his children and grandchildren.    He enjoyed being outdoors working in his garden and doing yard work.  He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved following Donald Trump.  Wayne always said he experienced two miracles in his lifetime, “In 2016 when Donald Trump was elected President and the Chicago Cubs won the World Series”.  When Wayne was relaxing at the house, he loved to watch a classic western movie.  While living in Flora, Wayne served as a school bus driver and radio announcer for WNOI.  He was a member of the Civil Defense, Flora Kiwanis Club, and American Legion.  Wayne was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Mount Carmel. Wayne will be remembered by his loving wife, Pamela Moran of Mount Carmel; sons, Wayne (Neeley) Moran, Jr. of Effingham, IL, Michael (Geana) Collard of Carmi, IL and Benjamin (Sara) Moran of Effingham, IL; daughters, Gayle (Tom) Harris of Clay City, IL Audrey (Stephen) McCarthy of Flora, IL and Sheila (Layne) Kihn of Haubstadt, IN; twelve grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren with one on the way.  Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, William Walters; sister and brother in law, Norma (Richard) Wegs; brother and sister in law, Charles (Wilma) Moran. Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Hope Lutheran Church, 1512 N. Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 13, 2020, at Hope Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Kramer officiating.  Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be made in Wayne’s memory to Hospice of Southeastern Illinois or to the Wabash Christian Village.  Envelopes will be at the Church or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863. Keepes Funeral Home is serving the family with the arrangements.  To view Wayne’s tribute wall, purchase flowers and leave condolences for the Moran family, please visit www.keepesfuneralhome.com
