Vernie Maxine Windes
Vernie Maxine Windes, 86, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Heritage Healthcare in Robinson, IL surrounded by the love of her family. She was born on April 23, 1930 in Hoopeston, IL the daughter of James D. and Rosa M. (Lovellette) Garrett. She married Robert Lewis Windes, Sr. on June 5, 1948 at their home and he preceded her in death.
Maxine was a homemaker and loved to cook and have big family dinners. In her younger years, Maxine liked being outdoors and fishing with her husband and children. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel. She enjoyed attending Sunday School Class taught by Mary Lou Jeffers. Among her hobbies she loved to go shopping with her family and friends and also loved working crossword puzzles. Maxine will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Maxine will be remembered by her son, Robert Lewis (Darla) Windes of Allendale, IL; two daughters, Sandra Kay Windes of Robinson, IL and Janice Marie Windes of Annapolis, IL; grandchildren, Krystle Lee (Brandon) Leach, Alex Michael Windes, Tyler Robert Windes and Meghan Conner Newlin; two great grandchildren, Mya Jane Leach and Malachi Joseph Leach; two brothers, Darrell (Carolyn) Garrett of Olney, IL and Wayne (Diana) Garrett of Mount Carmel.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Robert Lewis Windes, Sr.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Freels officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel where Maxine will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband Robert.
Memorial contributions may be made in Maxine’s memory to Reaching and Teaching International Ministries/ Krystle and Brandon Leach. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
