Obituary for Thelma Grace Walker
Thelma Grace Walker, 85, of Mount Carmel, Illinois passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at her residence. She was born on October 6, 1932 in rural Crossville, Illinois the daughter of Cyrus and Flora (Fobar) Elliot. Thelma graduated from Crossville High School class of 1949. In 1950, she married her high school sweetheart, D.C. “Doc” Daniel. Thelma was a homemaker while their two children were young. After twenty years of marriage, Thelma and Doc divorced but maintained a close friendship until his passing. Thelma worked as a retail clerk at Grandpa John’s in Carmi and later was employed by Baptist Children’s Home. In 1983 she married Robert Walker of Mt. Vernon, IN. After Robert’s passing, Thelma moved to Mount Carmel where she was active in the community. She was a member of First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel and was a member of U R Welcome Sunday School Class. She was also a part of Happy Hearts, Red Hat Society and the Wabash Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, reading and working in her yard. Thelma will be missed by her family and all who knew her. Thelma will be remembered by her daughter, Brenna (Larry) Crooks of Mount Carmel; son, David (Valvet) Daniel of Flushing, MI; two grandsons, Travis Crooks and Ryan Pappenfuss; and one great granddaughter, Maysa Crooks. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Walker; two brothers, Vertice Elliott who passed away in infancy and Sherley Elliot; and sister, Ruby Burgett. In keeping with Thelma’s wishes she will be cremated and a graveside service will be held at a later date in Stokes Chapel Cemetery near Crossville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made in Thelma’s memory to the First General Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.
