Obituary for Richard A. Smith
Richard A. Smith, 66, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 21, 1950 in Mount Carmel the son of Raymond and Wilma (Allen) Smith.
Richard faithfully served his country in the United States Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He was an active member of the V.F.W, American Legion and the Eagles. Richard enjoyed serving on our local honor guard and could often be found helping out and participating in many parades and community events.
Among Richard’s hobbies he enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and spending quality time with his grandchildren fishing. He had a heart for animals and loved to feed the squirrels. Richard was of Catholic faith. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
He will be remembered by his two sons, Joseph (Christina) Smith and Richard Smith, Jr; two daughters, Elizabeth (Ryan) Cross and Margaret (Earl) Casper; grandchildren, Trevor Deisher, Shawna Deisher, Kierra Deisher, Robert Deisher, Sara Deisher, Brendan Cross, Lucas Cross, Amelia Cross, Alisha Smith, Nathan Smith, Hannah Smith, Madison Drew, Levi Smith, Courtney Casper, Dillon Casper, Dakota Smith, Scotty “Lil Man” Kays, Alexis Meredith and Austin Minchue; great grandchild, Sarabelle Coleman; brothers, Pat Smith, Robert (Gloria) Smith, Donald Smith, John Smith, and Stuart (Pat) Smith; sisters, Margie (Steve) Thompson and Jennifer (Rob) Huff; many loved cousins, nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mike and Roger Smith; grandsons, Ethan Smith and Baby Casper.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
A Memorial Service to honor the life of Richard will be at 11:30 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Father Bill Rowe officiating. A private family burial will take place at Saint Mary’s Catholic Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
