Obituary for Opal L Smith
Opal L Smith, 73, of Mount Carmel, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehab surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on March 4, 1942 in Wabash County, IL the daughter of Clarence and Mildred (Anderson) Deisher.
Opal married Jack Smith September 1959, and he preceded her in death in July 1994. Together they enjoyed thirty four years of marriage. Jack and Opal loved spending time outdoors and cutting wood.
Among Opal’s hobbies, she loved reading, being outdoors; taking long walks and riding a bike. She loved her family and treasured her time she spent with them. During Opal’s working career she worked in housekeeping at the Elk’s for close to twenty years. She will be missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her two daughters, Debbie (Joe) Delong and Karen Miskell both of Mount Carmel; three grandchildren, Heather (Larry) Luttrell, Joe (Andrea) Delong II, Karrissa Miskell; six great grandchildren, Shelby Luttrell, Brandon Luttrell, Iris Miskell, Heaven Miskell, Jonas Green and Marius Miskell; brother, David (Ann) Deisher of Saint Francisville, IL; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; husband; four sisters, Mabel Williams, Irene Rogers, Ruby Allen, and Gladys Pope; four brothers, Wayne, Harold, Pete and Sherman Deisher.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
Funeral Services will be at 1:30 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Tony Hodgson officiating. Burial will follow at Harrison Cemetery in Lancaster, IL where Opal will be laid to rest by her loving husband.
