Obituary for Nancy E. Gourley
Nancy E. Gourley, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 3, 2021 at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born on November 4, 1950 in Salem, Illinois, the daughter of James C. and Bettye (Hampton) Stricker. Nancy married William “Bill” Gourley on April 21, 1996 and he preceded her in death on May 22, 2016. Nancy worked for over forty years as a hairdresser and loved her clients, many of whom became close friends. She took great delight in making someone look nice. Nancy loved her family and was very proud of her grandchildren. In her free time, Nancy loved shopping and was always excited to find a good deal. She was a long member of the Mount Carmel VFW and the Eagles. She will be missed by her family and friends. Nancy will be remembered by her daughter, Heather Lynn Birkla and husband, Ronnie; five grandchildren, Mikhial Hicks, Abygail Hicks, Alexzandria Hicks, Jacob Malcolm and Zachary Hurt; one great granddaughter, Stella Malcolm due in January; brothers, Jerome “Jerry” Stricker and John Stricker; uncle, Bob Hampton; many loved nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy was preceded in death by her son, Jason Hicks; parents; husband; and brother, James “Jimmy” Stricker. Graveside Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 9, 2021 at Denning Cemetery in West Frankfort, IL. Family and friends may gather for a Visitation from 5:00 p.m.- 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 8, 2021 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
