Obituary for Lyman Edward "Ed" Knust
Lyman Edward “Ed” Knust, 77, of Mount Carmel, formerly of Patoka, IN, passed away on Sunday, January 1, 2017 at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 6, 1939 in rural Wabash County, IL the son of Pete and Pearl (Brines) Knust. Ed was a graduate of Mount Carmel High School Class of 1957. He married Ruth Brown on August 15, 1994 and she survives.
Ed loved to work on his twenty acre farm. His wife, Ruth, could often be found working by his side as they bailed hay for local farmers. Ed was a motorcycle racing enthusiast with his son Bill. He was the pit crew while Bill was racing. He worked for several years as a diesel truck mechanic and service manager for Banner Equipment in Daylight, IN. Ed also over-saw the construction of the North Brook addition in Princeton, IN. Ed was known by the children at Church as the “Candy Man”. He really enjoyed handing out candy to them. He was a member of the Patoka United Methodist Church in Patoka, IN. He held a special place in his heart for his grandchildren. Ed had a contagious laugh and will be greatly missed.
Ed will be remembered by his wife of twenty one years, Ruth; sons, Bill (Robin) Knust of Patoka, IN, Travis (Heather) Knust of Oakland City, IN; daughters, Tara Bustos-Gaytan of Mount Carmel, Sharon (John) Long of Mount Carmel; grandchildren, Hunter Stokes, Austin Knust, Kaleb Knust, Ayden Schott, Ashtyn Schott, Aaron Schott, Luci George, Rosalyn Hall, Jocie Wright, Daniell Kermode, Paige McIntire, Haylee Knust, Jaime Bustos-Gaytan, Selena Bustos-Gaytan, Raymon Bustos-Gaytan, Carrie (Chris) Speth, and Melanie Scales; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Kate McDowell of Mount Carmel, Gladys Gard of Knoxville,TN and Joan Coomes of Mount Carmel; many nieces and nephews and special neighbors Hulie and Linda Holloman.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifton Knust; sisters, Rose Grant, Oleiva Cox and Phyllis Maurice.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 5, 2017 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral home with Pastor Jeff Pinney officiating. Burial will follow at Lick Prairie Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ed’s memory to the United Methodist Church of Patoka, IN. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
