Obituary for Lina M. Miller
Lina M. Miller, 91, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2017 at Oakview Heights Continuous Care & Rehab. She was born on March 19, 1926 in Frankfort, Germany the daughter of Henry and Maria (Priester) Hafner. In 1941, Lina and her sister made the decision to come to the United States on the SS Mouzinho Ship that carried many children. It wasn't until 1946 that Lina's parents were able to make the journey to the United States.
Lina graduated from Indiana University with her bachelor's degree in social work. Lina moved to Mount Carmel and worked as a social worker for thirty years at the State of Illinois Public Aid Office retiring as the local office administrator. During Lina's working career she made sure to show compassion to all people.
Lina was very diverse and spoke three languages. She devoted a lot of her time to Wabash Valley College Theatrical Program where she helped with the task of costuming characters. Lina loved helping behind the scenes making sure wardrobe went off without a hitch. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and attending Evansville Philharmonic Concerts. Lina loved to travel and was very proud to travel back to her home of Germany. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
Lina will be remembered by her two daughters, Karin Wiggins of Mount Carmel and Deborah Estlack of Flowery Branch, GA; grandchildren, Christopher Robinson, Todd Miller, Sarah Miller, Amber Giles, Laura Rueter and Austin Wiggins; eleven great grandchildren; sisters, Lisa Mundy of Syracuse, NY and Ann Brennan of Mansfield, MA.
Lina was preceded in death by her parents; and son, Steven John Miller.
In keeping with Lina's wishes she will be cremated and no formal services will be held. Her cremains will be scattered in the Atlantic Ocean.
