Obituary for Johnny Joe "John" Lang, Sr.
Johnny Joe “John” Lang Sr., 55, of Mount Carmel, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2016 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born September 5, 1960 in Mount Carmel the son of Bobby Gene and Patty Gwendolyn (Henson) Lang.
John attended Mount Carmel High School. He started his working career working with his father for Stanley Taylor Oil Field Services then for Precision Well Service. John worked his last sixteen years in automotive production. John was a member and former officer of Mount Carmel Eagles Aerie 3066. John loved sports and excelled in football, baseball and basketball. The late Bud Brown was one of John’s mentors. John enjoyed coaching. He was very proud of his intercity football league team, the Colts, who went undefeated for five years. John was a part of the traveling Junior Aces coaching staff for four years. He was a Little League manager for ten years and was a respected umpire. He touched many lives with his devotedness. John joined Scott Allen in the Golden Aces football radio booth providing color analyst duties in 1988. He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan while also rooting on the Chicago Cubs. During football season he cheered on the Mount Carmel Golden Aces and the Minnesota Vikings. John loved taking beach vacations, enjoying the ocean’s serenity, especially the Saint Augustine Beach area. He loved spending time with his family. Performing magic tricks for his grandchildren was another of his favorite pastimes. John will be remembered for his quick and easy smile, his funny wise cracks, his keen sense of humor and his love of dancing.
John is survived by his devoted partner and soulmate, Karin Wiggins; children, Johnny Joe (Josie Lewis) Lang Jr., Amanda Marie “Blondie” Lang, and Austin Thomas Wiggins; grandchildren, Hailey Lang, Dalton Lang, Chase Wiggins, Kolton Lang and Rosaleigh Porter; sisters, Gwynna Lockhart, Carmen (Cary) Spray, both of Mount Carmel and Goldie (Jeff) Kieffer of Allendale; one brother, Bobby Curt (Jaymie) Lang of Big Spring, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; and best friends Rodger Beard and Ed Tinsley.
John was preceded in death were his parents; sister, Joyce Lee Adams; and brother-in-law, Tom Lockhart.
Per John’s wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes scattered in the Atlantic Ocean in the Saint Augustine area.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Johnny Lang’s life at 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, August 7, 2016 at the Mount Carmel Eagles.
