Obituary for Jean Beatrice Parks
Jean Beatrice Parks passed away peacefully at age 92, July 21, 2017 at her home in Allendale IL. She was born March 9, 1925 in Wabash County to Frank P. Mann and Mattie (Leek) Mann. She married Philip E. Parks on September 16, 1944 in Galatia, Illinois.  Jean was the eldest of the children in her family, which included three brothers. After years as a homemaker, Jean attended Chicago Teachers College and received a degree in education. She subsequently taught elementary classes in the Steger Illinois school system for 21 years. She began playing the piano in church when she was ten years old and continuously served as either church pianist or organist for the next 75 years. She loved her church and served as a Sunday School teacher for most of her adult life.  A lifelong gardener, she was always impatient in the spring to get the radishes and lettuce planted. In her late sixties, she began painting, which was a source of both enjoyment and pride.   Jean will be remembered by her husband of seventy-two years, Philip Parks of Allendale; son, Duane (Jane) Parks of Orio; daughter, Sherry (Jerry) Ogor of Crete, IL; grandchildren, Tasha Brown (Richard) of West Chester, OH, Shannon Parks (Katrina) of Poulsbo, WA,  Dana Gaboian of Bourbonnais, IL, and five great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Janet) Mann of Mt Carmel; sisters-in-law, Mary Mann of Centralia and Dixie Mann of Mt Carmel; brother-in-law, John Parks  of Virginia Beach, VA.  She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Dennis and Dean; son Glenn Allen.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m.  to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Wabash Presbyterian Church in Orio. The funeral service will follow with Rev. Kevin McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.  The family wishes to express appreciation to Oakview nursing home and Celtic Hospice for the good care they provided. Also thanks to the many friends who were involved in her life.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jean's memory to Wabash Presbyterian Church, 11188 N 2300 Rd, Allendale, IL 62410. Envelopes will be at the Church or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863. Keepes Funeral Home is serving the family with the arrangements.  To view Jean’s tribute wall, leave condolences and purchase flowers for the Park’s family, please visit www.KeepesFuneralHome.com.
