Obituary for James Dewayne "Wayne" Stoneberger
James Dewayne “Wayne” Stoneberger, 68, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, March 30, 2022, at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Grayville, Illinois. He was born on January 25, 1954, in Wabash County, Illinois, the son of Chester and Deloris (VanMatre) Stoneberger.

Wayne enlisted in the United States Navy in 1972 and proudly served his Country for twenty years. After retiring from the Navy, he returned to his hometown of Bellmont, Illinois and began working for the city. He was employed at the Bellmont water department until his health no longer allowed. Wayne enjoyed keeping the genealogy of his family. He loved working outside taking care of his yard, his beautiful flowers, and growing a bountiful garden which, he generously shared with his neighbors and friends. He had a loving heart for helping others. Wayne was a good cook and loved preparing holiday meals for his family and friends. He had a keen sense of humor, usually at the expense of his family. Wayne often said, “I don’t have enough time on this earth to teach my sisters how to cook”. He was a member of the Bellmont Methodist Church where he enjoyed the Bible study night. He would often prepare a meal for all to enjoy at the conclusion of study night. Wayne loved his family, church family and many friends. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Wayne leaves behind two sisters, Evelyn (Veryl) Jones, and Linda Ward; two nephews, Bill Bruce, and Tim Bruce; one aunt, Shirley Stoneberger; special cousins, Jerry Stoneberger, and Gary Wood; three great-nieces, two great-nephews, several cousins, and friends.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Allen, and Jacky Stoneberger.
