Obituary for Jack R. Hillyard
Jack R. Hillyard, 80, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, IN surrounded by the love of his family. Jack was born on November 23, 1936 in Mount Carmel the son of John and Dorothy (Davis) Hillyard. Jack married Mary Coleman on September 1, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Mount Carmel where Jack was a lifetime member. Jack and Mary enjoyed traveling with their family and taking vacations to Alaska, Bahamas and Hawaii.
Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He had a love for people and always loved helping others. Jack was an avid Mount Carmel Golden Aces fan and could be found in the stands cheering them on in football and basketball. He started his working career in construction with Hillyard Brothers. During this time he also sold wood stoves. From 1984 to 2012 Jack was a satellite dealer and made many friendships through his store Hillyard’s Satellite in Mount Carmel. He was a longtime member of the Civitan Club where he could be found volunteering around town and putting up flags on special holidays. Jack will be missed by his family and all who knew him
He will be remembered by his loving wife of forty nine years, Mary Hillyard of Mount Carmel; son, Gary (Barbara) Hillyard of Mount Carmel; daughters, Teresa (Stan) Stoltz of Mount Carmel, Michele (Jerry) Michels of Albion, IL and Krista Peach of Mount Carmel; three grandchildren, Dalton Michels, Hayli Michels and Camron Peach; brother, Larry (Patsy) Hillyard of Winslow, IN; and sister, Barbara (George) Havill of St. Francisville, IL.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; brother, John Richard “Dick” Hillyard and older half-sister, Norma Jean Hillyard.
Family and friends are invited to gather 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Thursday, December 29, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, December 30, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Steven Freels officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel.
Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory to Wabash General Hospital Oncology Department. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
