Obituary for Gene Knapp
Gene Knapp, 60, of Mount Carmel, IL, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at his residence.
He was born on March 6, 1955 in Wabash County, IL, the son of Bill and Helen (Belt) Knapp.
He married Cathy Honeycutt on July 27, 1974. Together, Gene and Cathy enjoyed forty one years of marriage. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and treasured spending time with his family.
Gene faithfully served his country in the United States Army where he was stationed in Fort Bragg, NC. He was a member of the 82nd Air Born Division and served as a paratrooper. He loved hot rod cars and also enjoyed riding motorcycles. Gene worked at Knapp Oilfield Supply for twenty years and also worked with his son Jeremiah at Carolina Seamless Gutters. He was a member of Heartland Worship Center in Mount Carmel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Knapp of Mount Carmel; mother, Helen Knapp; three sons, Johnny (Vicki) McKinney of Rocky Mount, NC, Joshua (Mary Ann) McKinney also of Rocky Mount, NC, Jeremiah (Ashley) Knapp of Mount Carmel, IL; grandchildren, Ashley Matthews of Elm City, NC and Aubree Jean Knapp; great grandchildren, Jon, Nathan and Aydan Matthews; siblings, Earl (Anita) Knapp and Susan Harper both of Mount Carmel; Tony, Jackie and Leo, three international students whom Gene thought of as his children; several nieces, nephews and a special nephew, Cody Summers.
Gene was preceded in death by his father and brother, Dennis Knapp.
Per Gene’s wishes he will be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
