Obituary for Donald Lee Hamilton
Donald Lee Hamilton, 80, of Mount Carmel, IL left for his Heavenly Home on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his residence following a chronic illness. Donald was surrounded by his family and friends. He was born on February 16, 1937 in Vanderburgh County, IN the son of Rollie and Velma (Memmer) Hamilton. Donald married Mary Ellen Keppel on June 5, 1959 in Mount Carmel, IL. Together they enjoyed fifty seven years of marriage devoting their time to family. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather and faithful friend to many.
In Donald's younger years he worked at Joe's Texaco for six years then went on to work at Snap On Tools in Mount Carmel. He retired from Snap On after thirty three years of dedicated service. During Donald's working career he made many friendships. Donald enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life such as camping, bowling, fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed being outdoors, gardening and travelling. He was also an avid sports fan. It wasn't unusual on game day to find Donald watching one game on the T.V. while listening to another game on the radio. He also enjoyed watching basketball at Wabash Valley College.
Donald was a member of First General Baptist Church for many years. He enjoyed volunteering at his Church and in the community. Donald was a hard worker where he loved working outside and keeping busy. He enjoyed taking walks around town and picking up trash along the way. Donald loved his family and friends and would do anything for them.
Donald will be remembered by his wife, Mary Ellen Hamilton of Mount Carmel; son, Darrel Lee (Kris) Hamilton of Mount Carmel; daughter in law, Lisa Hamilton of Princeton, IN; grandchildren, Rachel Lynne (Jacob) Odom and Kyra Marie Hamilton; great grandchildren, Tyler and Savanna Raine Odom; siblings, MaryAnn Abbott of Oakland City, IN, Margaret (Ellsworth) Ross of Francisco, IN, John Hamilton of Evansville, IN, and Martha (Jim) Short of West Salem, IL; many loved nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; son, David Joe Hamilton in 2016; siblings, Vivian Hamilton, Bill Hamilton, Robert Hamilton and Charles Hamilton.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at First General Baptist Church, 120 W. 12th Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863
Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 5, 2017 at the Church with Pastor Gary Underwood officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery in Mount Carmel.
