Obituary for David Edward Schrader
David Edward Schrader, 69, of Mount Carmel, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on October 18, 1946 in Wabash County, IL the son of Charles and Evelyn (Frick) Schrader. He was a graduate of the Mount Carmel High School Class of 1964. Following high school David went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Industrial Technology at S.I.U. Carbondale. David was very proud of his faithful service to his country in the United States Navy. During the Vietnam era, he served on the USS Kilauea , an ammunition ship in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Vietnam. More recently was proud to be a volunteer crewman for the USS LST 325 memorial ship stationed in Evansville, IN.
David was known by many as a great story teller; his sense of humor was obvious in the stories he told. David resided on his farm which he was very proud of and loved having his family come for a visit. He appreciated Ford Tractors and was very fond of Ford Tractor Blue. He loved spending time at his river camp with many friends and family. Schrader-Batesville was a popular gathering place to many. Among David’s hobbies he was a gun enthusiast, riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, and German Shepard dogs. He was an avid fan of racing most especially NASCAR Racing.
David owned T&T Trucking Company. He worked as a union operator superintendent in road construction and was very proud of his membership in I.U.O.E. Local # 841. David was a lifetime member of the VFW, American Legion, Moose and the Eagles. He also served as Chairman for the rural water district in Wabash County. David was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mount Carmel, IL.
Above all David was a proud family man who treasured his family and the time he spent with them. His grandsons greatly treasured their Grandpa David’s involvement in their many activities. His family and his grandchildren were the center of his world. David will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him.
He is survived by his son, Frank and his wife Valerie Schrader of Mount Carmel; daughter, Lesley and her husband Curt Hipsher; grandchildren, Ashley Harms, Luke and Ty Hipsher and Jaxon Schrader; two sisters, Bonnie and her husband George Rehnquist of Princeton, IN and Janet and her husband Jerry Schauf of Monticello, IL.
David was preceded in death by his parents; and very close friends, Peg Peterson and Joe Seybold.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March, 17, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 18, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Reverend Jackie Summers officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
