Obituary for Carl E. Shepard
Carl E. Shepard, 92, of Mount Carmel, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on June 23, 1929, at home in Orio Illinois, the son of Jacob and Katherine (Alka) Shepard. He married Katherine Elaine James and after her passing on March 2, 2009, he Married Shirlee Campbell who survives.
Carl was a hardworking man who spent forty-three years working as an engineer on the railroad. In his spare time, he enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and on the local level, Lady Aces Softball. Carl was an outdoorsman who liked to fish and hunt. He proudly trained several championship dogs that he loved to hunt with. He enjoyed taking hunting trips with friends and attending many quail and pheasant hunting events. He was a member of the Wabash Quail Club and Wabash Presbyterian Church. He loved his family dearly and will be dearly missed.
Carl leaves behind his loving wife of eleven years, Shirlee; sons, Jacob C. (Bridget) Shepard, Don A. Shepard; stepdaughters, Susan (Mike) Gibbons, Karen (Doug) Deisher, Kim (Brad) Bledsoe; stepson, Gary Campbell; many loved grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one brother, Don E. (Frances) Shepard.
Carl was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Brenda Gordon, and Sandra Stinson, sisters, Hester Jane Morgan, Rosemary Olds, and Eileen Shepard.
In keeping with Carl’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private family burial will be held at Orio Cemetery.
