Obituary for Bertha Mae Kieffer
Bertha Mae Kieffer, 91, of Mount Carmel, IL, passed away on Friday, December 19, 2014 at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, IN. She was born on November 12, 1923 in Wabash County, IL, the daughter of Leo and Edith (Tennis) Keepes. She married Lewis Kieffer on January 14, 1947 and he preceded her in death in 1987. Also preceding Bertha in death were her parents; brothers, Howard and John L. Keepes. Bertha loved her family and treasured the time she spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Among Berthas hobbies, she enjoyed making ceramics, cooking and sewing. She was a big fan of Indiana basketball. Bertha was a member of Saint Marys Catholic Church in Mount Carmel. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Oakview Villa for the compassionate care given to Bertha. She will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her children, Diana (Stan) Roth of Jenison, MI, Bonnie (Tim) Bell of Mount Carmel, Larry (Cathy) Kieffer of Mount Carmel, Dwain (Dawn) Kieffer of Mount Carmel, Mark Kieffer of Kenton, OH, and Ed (Stacee) Kieffer of Mount Carmel; siblings, Norman (Helen) Keepes, Agnes (Dick) Hockgeiger, Victor Keepes, Bernard Keepes, Marilyn (John) Harris all of Mount Carmel, and Gene (Judy) Keepes of Petersburg, IN; fourteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 22, 2014 at Saint Marys Catholic Church in Mount Carmel, IL. Father Robert Zwilling will be conducting the Mass. Burial will follow at Saint Marys Catholic Cemetery in Mount Carmel. Family and friends may gather for a visitation from 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Saint Marys Catholic Church. A Rosary service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Memorial contributions may be made in Berthas memory to Saint Marys School Renovation Fund, 417 Chestnut Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
