Obituary for Ann M Compton
Ann M. Compton, 69, of Mount Carmel, IL passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2015 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on January 26, 1946 in Henderson, KY the daughter of Jesse and Winnie (Sisk) Fortner. She married Jerry Compton and he preceded her in death in 2008.
Ann worked as a counselor with Wabash County Social Services. She was a bartender and past president of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary and a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She worked as a clerk at Casey’s General Store. Ann enjoyed playing bingo and dearly loved her family. She will be missed by her family and all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Ron Elliott Jr; daughter, Sue Elliott both of Mount Carmel; four grandchildren, Kieri (Mike) Phelps, Shayla (James) Fenton, Skyler Elliott and Cody (Autumn) Nichols; three great-grandchildren, Bentley Phelps, Aydyn Nichols and Carly Nichols; two brothers, David Fortner and Gary Fortner; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Compton; sister, Mary Adams; brother, Eddie Fortner; and step father, Ed Brown Sr.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2016 with Bobby Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Antioch Cemetery in Keensburg, IL.
Memorial contributions may be made in Ann’s memory to the VFW and American Legion Military Honor Guard. Envelopes will be at the funeral home or can be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
